11 October 2024, Vientiane – Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone presided over the 14th ASEAN-United Nations (UN) Summit, attended by ASEAN leaders, H.E. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), and the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste as an observer.

On this occasion, ASEAN leaders commended the success of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and the Summit of the Future held in New York in September 2024. The United Nations (UN) remains one of ASEAN’s key partners with a history of long-standing cooperation. ASEAN-UN relations were established in 1977 and elevated to a Comprehensive Partnership in 2011.
