The Lao PDR to Host and Chair the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (57th AMM) and Related Meetings 21-27 July 2024 in Vientiane, Lao PDR.
The Lao PDR, in its capacity as ASEAN Chair under the theme: “ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience”, will host and chair the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and Related Meetings on 21-27 July 2024, at the National Convention Center (NCC), Vientiane.
On the occasion of the 57th AMM, there will be 25 Ministerial Meetings to be attended by Foreign Ministers and representatives from 31 countries with more than 1,000 delegates. It is also expected about 500 journalists to cover the Meetings.
The Meetings will focus the discussion on strengthening the ASEAN Community building as well as enhancing ASEAN connectivity and resilience in line with the Lao PDR’s ASEAN Chairmanship’s theme through the implementation of the nine priorities for the Lao PDR’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2024, and the implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, and the development of Strategic Plans to implement the ASEAN Community Vision 2045. At the same time, the Meetings will discuss cooperation between ASEAN and External Partners through ASEAN-led mechanisms and exchange of views on regional and international issues of common interest and concern.
In this regard, H.E. Saleumxay KOMMASITH, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs will host and chair the following meetings:
- Meeting of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ) Commission;
- ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Interface with the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Representatives;
- Informal Consultation (current, previous and incoming Chairs of ASEAN) on the implementation of Five-Point Consensus;
- 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (Plenary Session);
- 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (Retreat Session);
- Trilateral Meeting between the Lao PDR, Norway and the ASEAN Secretariat;
- Trilateral Meeting between the Lao PDR, Türkiye and the ASEAN Secretariat;
- Trilateral Meeting between the Lao PDR, Switzerland and the ASEAN Secretariat;
- ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference with Australia;
- 25th ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers’ Meeting;
- 14th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting; and
- 31st ASEAN Regional Forum.
Additionally, H.E Saleumxay KOMMASITH, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs will host and attend the Meetings between Foreign Ministers and its Dialogue Partners, namely:
- ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference with China;
- ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference with New Zealand;
- ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference with Japan;
- ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference with the European Union;
- ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference with the Republic of Korea;
- ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference with India;
- ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference with Russia;
- ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference with the United Kingdom;
- ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference with the United States;
- ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference with Canada.
At the sidelines of the 57th AMM, H.E Saleumxay KOMMASITH, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs will co-chair meetings under the Mekong framework, namely:
- 3rd Mekong – U.S Foreign Ministers’ Meeting;
- 15th Mekong – Japan Foreign Ministers’ Meeting;
- 12th Mekong – ROK Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
On this occasion, H.E Saleumxay KOMMASITH, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs will also have separate bilateral meetings with Foreign Ministers from various countries.
H.E. Sonexay Siphandone, Prime Minister of the Lao PDR, in his capacity as ASEAN Chair 2024, will receive a courtesy call by Foreign Ministers and representatives of countries attending the Meetings. The 57th AMM and Related Meetings will conclude in the afternoon of 27 July 2024.
